The West Lauderdale softball team erupted with eight hits and nine walks as the Lady Knights defeated Quitman 17-2 Thursday evening. Kayla Horton led the Lady Knights offensively, going 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Hailey Tally had a three-run home run for West Lauderdale, and Kennedy Mayatt, Lexie Smith, Lily Ramsey, Kacey Williams and Kellis Adams all collected hits. Kristin Hayes walked three times, and Ramsay and Maggie Wooldridge both walked twice. Smith got the win on the mound for West Lauderdale, pitching three innings and giving up two runs, none earned, on two hits with three strikeouts. The game was called after three innings due to the mercy rule. For Quitman, Kinley Stewart had a hit and scored a run, and Abriel McCarty was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Cammie Harris also had an RBI for the Lady Panthers. West Lauderdale (10-4) will travel to Newton County next Tuesday.
