2018 PREMIER PREPS BOYS SOCCER TEAM

Nine seniors and two juniors from eight schools comprise this year’s Premier Preps of East Mississippi boys soccer team. Through the different seasons, coaches nominate players from their teams, and the Star’s sports staff selects from the pool of nominees which players will make the squads. Here are a handful of numbers that defined this year’s soccer selections. 2: State All-Star selections: The contributions of Lamar School’s Parker Neal and Newton County’s Joel Hill earned both players spots on the state’s All-Star list. Neal, a senior, capped his prep career with an MAIS Class AAAA, Division II state championship, and Hill is a two-time Region 4-5A MVP midfielder. 3: Two-time Premier Prep selections: Northeast Lauderdale’s Keegan Pearson, Newton County’s Joel Hill and Southeast Lauderdale’s Andres Alonso – all seniors – earned their second consecutive appearances as Premier Preps of East Mississippi boys soccer selections. 4: Premier Preps selections who will play on college: A quartet of this year’s Premier Preps of East Mississippi players will continue their athletic careers at the next level. Northeast Lauderdale’s Hunter Garrett will play for Meridian College; Newton County’s Joel Hill will play at East Central Community College; Southeast Lauderdale’s Andres Alonso is headed to Meridian Community College and Meridian’s Eli Bancroft will play for Millsaps College. 286: Saves by Quitman goalkeeper Peyton Reynolds: Reynolds built an invisible impenetrable fortress around the goalie box for Quitman this season, as he accumulated 286 saves. Although he’s yet to sign with a college, a few schools have shown interest. 1,385: Minutes by Hugh Collins: Neshoba Central senior Hugh Collins played a whopping 1,385 minutes this season for the Rockets. 8: Schools represented: The Lamar Raiders, Northeast Lauderdale Trojans, West Lauderdale Knights, Newton County Cougars, Southeast Lauderdale Tigers, Meridian Wildcats, Neshoba Central Rockets and Quitman Panthers are all represented this year. 109: Goals Scored: This year’s Premier Preps of East Mississippi’s selections combined to score 109 goals this season. Southeast Lauderdale’s Andres Alonso scored a Premier Preps-leading 18 goals, while Lamar’s Parker Neal tallied 16 goals.
