The Falcons fell to Apex in a 2-1 loss last night. Apex and Green Hope were undefeated in the conference coming in, and the Falcons had only one non-conference loss. The Falcons were hoping to give Apex their first loss of the season. The game started out slow, with no goals scored in the entirety of the first half, with neither team seeming to find their rhythm. The first goal came five minutes into the first half, and the Cougars went up 1-0 against the Falcons. Three minutes later Green Hope junior Parker Washburn found the back of the net, but the goal was called back as the ball had gone out of bounds before the cross. This gave the Falcons energy, and Washburn converted five minutes later off a cross from junior Griffin Brookshire. The Falcons were fired up and hungry with the score tied, but allowed an Apex goal four minutes later and went down 2-1. The Falcons kept possession well in the final third for most of the remaining 13 minutes, but couldn’t find the back of the net and Apex took the win 2-1. The Falcon News Feed Player of the Game is Mason Zlotnik. Zlotnik had many key saves to keep the Falcons in the game, including an amazing top corner save. Junior Davis Linscott commented, “We played well throughout the game, we dominated the game all first half, but we lost some momentum in the second half by letting in the first goal. We were unlucky and some chances didn’t fall our way, but overall we learned from the loss and this is just motivation for the rest of the season.” The Falcons are now 5-2-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference. They are still third in the conference and they are the only team with one loss. They have a chance for redemption at Apex on October 19 and are still a strong contender to win the conference.
