Rustler boys open season strong

RUSTLER BOYS OPEN SEASON STRONG

ABERDEEN - The Redfield-Doland girls’ track and field team won five events and the Miller Rustler boys’ team won four at the Northern State University Indoor Invitational on Tuesday. No team scores were kept in the season opener for most of the teams. Wolsey-Wessington was the only other local team competing at the meet. Nicolette Schmidt of Redfield-Doland won both of the individual distance events for the Pheasants, taking the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:11.66 and breaking the tape in the 3,000 meter in 10:52.87. Katie Gillette took the 400-meter dash for the Pheasants in 1:06.88 and ran a leg on the winning 1,600-meter relay team, combining with Isabel Blume, Rylie Gall and Tana Muellenberg for the win. Jamie Tebben won the shot put as well for Redfield-Doland, with a toss of 38-feet, 9-inches. For the Miller boys, Cole Sargent matched Schmidt’s accomplishment, winning the 1,500 in 4:36.09 and the 3k in 10:17.42. The Rustlers won the Sprint Medley Relay, as Jarek Kindle, Lucas Simpson, Karst Hunter and Connor Bertsch broke the tape in 3:15.58. Kindle won the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump that measured 39-9.25 and Desmond Graves won the shot, with a throw of 44-5.25.
