EAGLES ROLL OVER OXFORD HILLS

When the New England Patriots start the season 2-2, is anyone worried? So when the Eagles started 0-3, was anyone worried? You know that by the end of the season coach Chard will have his team in the hunt. A one-sided 11-1 victory over Oxford Hills evened the Eagles record at 3-3. The Eagles have outscored their opponents 30-8 over the last three games. Once again, the Eagles were patient of offense, working the ball and getting everyone involved. There were plenty of good looks and opportunities, but some wide shots and hit posts kept the Eagles off the board until Emily Welch marched down the middle to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the 19:35 mark. The Eagles kept the pressure on, but it wasn't till 10 minutes later that Erin Tome opened the floodgates with the second goal for the Eagles. A minute later, Magan Thomas-Copland was circling behind the net when she spotted Shannon Harty cutting through the middle. Magan threaded the needle with a perfect pass and Shannon rifled it home. Fiona Huang weaved her way through several defenders with a couple of nice dodge moves and finished her drive with a top shelf shot over the goalies left shoulder. It was Fiona's first goal of her Varsity career. In the closing Minute, Ronni Pelletier burst in, made the goalie commit, and shot where the goalie wasn't to make it a 5-0 game at the half. Eagles goalie Eleanor Skinner made several big saves on free position shots and a couple of fast breaks to keep the Vikings off the board. Emily Welch picked up her second goal of the game to open the second half. Emily persisted after her initial shot was stuffed and she casually picked up the rebound, and given the second chance, she did not miss the second time. Ronni Pelletier, working under the radar, squeezed through the defense and whistled a low shot past the Vikings' goalie to make it 7-0. Oxford Hills' Alyssa Hanley broke the shutout bid with a goal at 18:11. The Eagles responded immediately when Ronni Pelletier circled behind the net and hit Emily Welch with a pass that Emily converted to make the score 8-1. Ronni was involved in the next two goals. She scored her third goal of the game and then broke in and spotted Meaghan Caouette, who moved perfectly off the post to receive the pass and fire the ball past the Knights' goalie to make it 10-1. It was Meaghan's first goal of her varsity career and the Girls had a special celebration for her. Emily Welch finished off the scoring with her fourth goal of the game. Maddy Alexander, Jordie Chase, Savannah Parry, and Anna Manuel all played well on defense and Isa Blessington was a controlling force on offense and at the face off circle. Coach Chard got all the girls in the game.
