SEVEN WRESTLERS CAPTURE STATE TOURNEY BERTH

At the 4A-2 regional wrestling tournament, the MatCats has sent four wrestlers to state at Salina. Nathan Shields, senior, Justin Rieschick, junior, Mason Baum, senior, Justin Pool, junior, Kegan Meister, senior, Tyler Price, sophomore, Lucas Lovvorn, senior, all punched their tickets to the state tournament by placing top four at the regional wrestling tournament. The state tournament is at the Salina Bicentennial Center on February 27th and February 28th , a Friday and Saturday. As a whole, Holton wrestling finished 2nd to the host of the tournament, Baldwin, finishing 2nd overall. The Wildcats head to Salina as the two-time defending state champions and will be looking for the three-peat of state championships. Lucas Lovvorn is returning as an individual state champion, will be wrestling the 160 pound weight class looking to repeat. Four out of the seven state qualifiers will be graduating after this year. The returning three will be looking to build on to the tradition that Holton Wrestling have built and flourished under. Holton Wildcat fans have come to know the bicentennial center very well as basketball was hosted the event until the 4A split, moved basketball to Hartman Arena in Wichita. Sub-State basketball takes place March 5-March 7 at Atchison.
