Volleyball team loses to Clark

VOLLEYBALL TEAM LOSES TO CLARK

The Montgomery County volleyball team already owned a pair of wins over the Clark County Lady Cardinals when they traveled to Winchester last week. But in what was the most crucial match of the season so far between the two teams, Clark County was able to pull out a five-set victory and in so doing earned the first-round bye and an automatic trip to the regional tournament. The Indians will have to play Bourbon County in a semifinal round match in the three-team district. Montgomery County lost the opening set to Clark County, 25-23 but then battled back to win the second and third sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-23. But then the Lady Cards won set number four, 26-24 to force a fifth set where the teams only got to 15. Clark County won that set 15-7 to take the match, 3-2. In their first two meetings, Montgomery County had been seriously challenged in only one of the five sets played between the two teams. Coach John High's team rebounded from that loss to beat Franklin County, in straight sets, 25-17 and 25-17. Montgomery County carried a 14-6 record into action this week. They'll play host to Anderson County tonight (Thursday) at the Arena.
