NEW PRINCIPAL FOR GOLDSBORO HIGH SCHOOL NAMED

There is a new principal for Goldsboro High School. Robert Yelverton is currently the principal at Northeast Elementary School. He will leave that post and take over at Goldsboro High School February 8. Yelverton replaces Brian Weeks, who left the school in January to become the principal of Rosewood Middle. Yelverton said, “Goldsboro High School has a rich tradition and history and I am honored to be chosen to be the principal. My plan is to meet with staff, students and parents during the first two weeks. I will also be assessing the current practices and create a plan to move this school forward. I am looking forward to the challenge and opportunity to lead our students and staff.” Yelverton is a 22-year veteran educator who started his career as a principal in 2008 at Southern Academy. Following the merger of Belfast and Southern academies in 2009, he was named a principal at the Wayne Middle Academy. He was named principal of Northeast Elementary in 2011. In addition to serving as assistant principal at various schools, he also taught at Goldsboro middle and high schools and Mount Olive Middle. Mr. Yelverton holds a bachelor’s degree in design tech from Norfolk University and a teacher’s certification in middle grades math and a master’s degree in school administration from East Carolina University.
